I enjoy Korean flair as well
My dear friend Cho, whom I have not met for ages visited this blog site the other day, asked me over MSN if Japanese food is the only thing I eat nowadays. Judging from my blog entries, I might have really given that impression. But actually when it comes to food, I’m not exactly the faithful type and certainly not the kind that can eat the same thing everyday. Till today, I couldn’t quite understand my economic lecturer who once proudly said that he eats peanut-butter sandwich for breakfast every single day. For me, the closest call was the “9 bowls of udon in 2 days” I had in Takamatsu 2 years ago and I almost sweared off udon for the rest of my life.
I’m a firm believer of trying new food. But sometimes, my habit for new food adventure doesn’t go well with some friends. Like last weekend, I planned lunch at 7atenine with three friends to discuss on our up-coming travel, I thought it will be a good place for long lunch and discussion but I was quite wrong. 7atenine’s lunch concept (i.e. they don’t tell you what they are serving you) didn’t go well with my not-so-adventurous-when-it-come-to-food friend. Of the 20 items they served, I thought that she would like at least 10, but she ended up only eating 3 out of the 20 items. I felt really bad.
Not only that I don’t eat Japanese food all the time, I don’t always cook a real Japanese meal outside my work as well, especially not when I have friends over for dinner. In fact, only a handful of friends has ever tasted a full Japanese meal I cooked. Most however, have actually tried my Korean cooking (my second favorite cuisine). Korean is also my preferred choice if I want a simple meal at home. Sundubu (Spicy tofu soup) and Teok-bok-gi (Fried Rice cake) are my all-time favorite a one-dish meal. Like a couple of days ago, I wanted a meal of lots of veggies, Bi Bim Bap immediately came to mind. I’m not formerly trained in Korean cooking, so I’m have no idea if my cooking is authentic or not, but I thought Bi Bim Bap is quite a simple yet nutritious dish to make.
