Hanashizuku Japanese Cuisine

Squid & Uni Ravioli

Last night, after doing a packed out sushi workshop at Marriott Vacation Club, Sinma and I headed to Hanashizuku at Cuppage Plaza for supper. It was already well after dinner hours, but the place was still packed with crowd. And the reason, I reckon is definitely because Hanashizuku is such a great place to unwind, especially after a long hard day at work.

Like one of those classy Izakaya in Tokyo’s Ginza district, the ambience at Hanashizuku was nice and cozy. You will feel totally relaxed with Jazz music softly played in the background and the dim spot-lighting strategically positioned that is bright enough for you to admire the beautifully-plated food without being glaring to your tired eyes.

Firefly Squid with Su-Miso Dressing

Food leans toward modern Japanese and is original and interesting. Although we didn’t order much, because it was already quite late, we enjoyed what we sampled especially for the gorgeous plate of Firefly Squid (Hotaru Ika) with Su-Miso Dressing. The crisp-ocean taste of the in-season squid pairs seamlessly with the sourish sweet miso dressing. It totally whetted my appetite for more

Another simple yet innovative dish we tried was the Squid and Uni (Sea Urchin) Ravioli. It is hard to imagine just by the name, but it is actually my all-time favorite sea urchin sandwiched between two thinly-sliced squid sashimi. Lightly drizzled with yuzu dressing and some salt, it was simple yet delectable.

We ended our supper with a bowl of piping hot Hanashizuku Soba, topped with tororo seaweed and quail egg yolk. Supper at Hanashizuku was a right choice and a great discovery, it is a place I would want to drop by from time to time, and the next time, I will certainly bring an empty stomach.
