K.L Hokkien Mee
From 5p.m WJLJ turns into a hokkien mee haven. Yes this is the same store that serves Cheong fun in the morning but the fragrance of stirfry lard and garlic fills the air come late afternoon.
Again I am referring to the K.L version of hokkien mee and again the version we have in Singapore is not even close in taste and flavor for many reasons.
The ”yellow” noodles we use here are way to commercialized. With soy sauce and lard, it adds a much ncessary punch to the dish. When served hot, it is rich but yet not greasy at all. It’s wet but not watery, so the noodles literally slips right into your mouth with so much ease, you’ll finish the plate without even realizing. Those who have tried K.L hokkien mee before would have known this feeling. It is just a great way to enjoy a simple plate of hokkien mee. Nothing fancy. It is just hokkien mee done right in my opinion..It is a taste of an era that issadly no longer around here in Singapore but to my delight still well and alive in K.L. and thank God K.L is not that far away.

The place comes alive at night
