Yakitori & Kushi-katsu Place
Yakitori Uma, I came to know this place from its advertisement in the Japanese papers. Even though, it is located in Japanese food centric Cuppage area, its exact spot is at one indistinct corner of Orchard Plaza that is rather low on foot traffic that makes you forget about it existence easily. But its quiet location in the buzzing area makes it a nice place to go for a casual and quiet meal. Unlike typical noisy and smoky yakitori places, Uma Yakitori is clean, bright and quite comfortable.
Beef Harami & P-toro
Food-wise, though not the best, it is definitely decent enough to worth a visit there. We had and liked some of the recommended grilled items like the P-toro (grilled pork neck), Beef Harami, Beef liver and Tsukune (Minced Chicken), etc. The skewers came with different dips like yakitori sauce, mustard sauce and miso sauce to match the food.
Renkon Kushiage
Apart from yakitori, Uma also serves a great variety of Kushi-age and surprisingly in my opinion fares even better than the grilled food. The nice part is the kushi-age is made upon order. Depending on what you order, the chef will then dipped the skewered meat/vegetable into a thick, sticky batter before covering it with breadcrumbs and putting into the hot oil. I very much enjoyed the Nakotsu-age and Renkon kushi-age that I ordered. All these were washed down with a huge mug of Calpis. Yum!
Yakitori Uma is at
